Tralee Bay Wetlands together with Kerry County Museum will mark and celebrate St Bridget’s Day tomorrow Tuesday, February 1st 2022.

We invite you to commemorate the day with us and learn to make traditional St. Brigid’s crosses in our wetlands. You will discover where the rushes grow and a hear about their heritage and role in their habitat. Join Alan Balfe, Centre Ecologist for Tralee Bay Wetlands and Claudia Kohler and Hazel Ramsey of Kerry County Museum to learn more and go on a most interesting guided walking tour of the wetlands, collecting rushes on route, to make your very own St Bridget’s Day cross afterwards for your home. 

Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco & Activity Park invites submissions from Visual Artists; to consult, design, make and install 8-10 little Homes of our Wetlands "Wild creatures & plants for a Nature Trail" (Approx. size 18 inches to 36 inches). Each little home will depict a unique aspect of Tralee Bay Wetlands.

The artists applying will need to be;

(1) Interested in nature and
(2) Experienced in working with natural materials.

These little houses designs will engage children with a new innovative and creative nature trail at the Wetlands site. The aim is to offer fun, enjoyment, inspiration and to impart education regarding our natural environment, through the experience of our little creatures houses on the trail.

The total budget for artist’s fee, consultation, design, fabrication, installation, all associated travel and insurance costs, inclusive of VAT is €1,500. Many natural materials will be available on site at Tralee Bay Wetlands and these will be made freely available on agreement of design and timeframe for delivery.
